Garbage worker
The fact that garbage workers are more likely to die on the job than police officers is mind-boggling. But why is this the case? Tragically, around 25% of deaths are caused by being run over by reversing garbage trucks, while road incidents and being hit by trucks’ compactor blades are among other causes. The latest data shows that the profession had a rate of 35 deaths per 100,000, and 30 refuse and recycling workers died from work-related causes in the year 2017.
