In the early 1990s, these two congressmen had an original scheme through which they managed to embezzle thousands of dollars.
Their plan was pretty simple: they would return stamps funded by the taxpayers to the House post office in exchange for cash.
Well, we’ll admit this was a pretty creative and unique way, if we weren’t outraged we would be pretty impressed.
That was the whole scheme, simple, but quite effective. Kolter made $40,000 and Rostenkowski made $55,000.
Dan Rostenkowski got 17 months in jail, while Joe Kolter did only half a year in prison.
