#6 Mistake: Improper deductions for volunteer work

You can’t deduct your work as a volunteer! Trying to report the value of volunteer work is a big mistake. In general, volunteers can’t deduct anything. However, they can and should deduct the value of their donations.

Also, if your volunteer work requires vehicle rides, you can deduct the cost of gas and oil. Tolls and parking are deductible, as well. But your turkey sandwich between rides isn’t.
