5. LOUISIANA

  • State income tax: 2 percent or 6 percent
  • Average property tax: $555 in taxes / $100,000 of assessed home value
  • Average state and local sales tax: 9.45 percent
  • Gas taxes and fees: 20 cents / gallon

Louisiana is probably the friendliest states when it comes to property taxes (they are the lowest in our country). The Pelican State’s income tax is usually 2 percent (on $12,500 or less of taxable income for individuals, $25,000 for joint filers), but the tax will go up to 6 percent if the taxable income exceeds $50,000 and $100,000 for joint filers.

However, sales tax counterbalance everything else, as they are the highest in the country. The sales taxes are high due to groceries and prescription drugs, however, Louisiana allows its residents to deduct their federal income taxes.
