Retirement Will Probably Surprise You
Early retirement: If you haven’t retired yet, you should know that 46% of retirees left the workforce earlier than planned. Out of these people, 55% said they retired due to health problems or a disability. Therefore, you should take this possibility into account too.
Healthcare will cost more: As Fidelity Investments proved, a 65-year-old couple that retires today will spend about $275,000 out of pocket on healthcare. No matter how healthy you are right now, healthcare prices are likely to go up!
You may (or may not) be happy: On a more personal note, a MassMutual survey found that 10% of retirees were surprised that they feel lonely, bored and/or depressed without an apparent reason.
However, the same study found that a whooping 72% of retired respondents felt ‘quite happy’ or ‘extremely happy’ in retirement, so the odds are in your favour!
