1. Entering your Social Security number wrongly
According to Uncle Sam, a quite common mistake taxpayers tend to make when filing their taxes is entering their Social Security number wrongly. Just to make sure you’re typing the right number, grab your Social Security card and double-check.
Jessie Seaman, vice president at Community Tax in Chicago, says that entering just one digit wrongly can cause a lot of trouble. First of all, the processing of your tax return could be delayed (for who knows how…), and secondly, the taxman could reject exemptions for dependents.
Before submitting anything, review your return twice if necessary.
