This industry has taken a big hit after Diamond Princess (the ship that became the first huge outbreak cluster outside China) hosted 634 infected passengers and crew members and two deaths.

Even more, a Grand Princess ship docking in Oakland resulted in 28 cases of the illness. As of March 16, there were at least 7 cruise ships in limbo because some passengers tested positive or were showing symptoms of the virus and no country was willing to take them in.

Shares of three big cruise companies (Royal Caribbean, Carnival Corp., and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings) dropped drastically over 50 percent in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Industry group Cruise Lines International Association said the cruise industry contributes $53 billion to the United States economy each year. The White House has made clear it intends to help the industry no matter how hard the situation might be, with some sort of relief bill.
