A stimulus package or a stand-alone bill?
Which will it be?
Nothing is certain, but the quickest (and easiest) way to roll out the third stimulus payments is for Congress to approve a stand-alone bill. And because Democrats are now controlling the Senate and because the CASH Act was passed despite the fact that the vast majority of Republicans voted against it, we may see $2,000 checks for the upcoming payments.
In fact, the new Senate Majority Leader, Sen. Chuck Schumer, said that the first thing he wants to do “is deliver the $2,000 checks to the American families.” The $2,000 check includes the $600 that some Americans have already received and the difference, a $1,400 stimulus check as a third round.
Opting for a stand-alone bill will most likely accelerate the process (we may see the third round in early February), but things are still unclear.
