McDonald’s and Its Coffee
It seems people don’t take it lightly when someone messes with their coffee. Or should we say when coffee messes with them, in the case of Stella Libeck. The woman bought a cup of coffee from a drive-through at McDonald’s and placed it between her knees to add cream, despite the warnings on the label.
You can imagine what happened next, right? She somehow managed to spill the hot coffee and ended up with third-degree burns on her legs. McDonald’s coffee is 180 Fahrenheit and can truly burn your skin in a matter of seconds.
Libeck initially sued McDonald’s for $2.7 million in damage but dropped her charges to $640,000 for medical costs. Her case was featured on Wikipedia and intensified the debate whether people can sue even if because of their own mistakes. Does common sense exist anymore?
