9. Receive a summons
Another thing that could happen in case you fail to file/pay your taxes is getting a summons. This means that Uncle Sam will force you to show up in order to bring certain records and several important documents. You may be asked to testify, too.
Basically, a summons is a legal requirement in which, let’s say, a federal agency like Uncle Sam asks you to appear. And it doesn’t have to be YOU. It could be someone else, but this individual (a record keeper, for instance) must be up-to-date with your case.
