3. Get notices from the taxman

No one wants Uncle Sam knocking at their doors, and yet some people see him through their peepholes. Unsurprisingly, that’s a possible consequence of failing to file or pay your taxes. Luckily for all taxpayers, the taxman has to send us a notice before making any troubling moves.

He needs your response to the notice in 30 to 60 days. So, if you have one in your mailbox, don’t throw it in your kitchen drawer to forget about it. The problem is not going to solve itself. The best (and wise) thing to do is contact Uncle Sam as soon as you open the letter.
