A couple that owned a condo was tired of driving five to seven hours to check on the rental property. They could have opted for a commercial flight, but they didn’t like that idea either, so they decided to simply buy their own plane.
Since they did use it for business purposes, the courts allowed them to deduct the condo-related trips on the aircraft, which also included fuel. Surprising no-one, the trips did increase the overall rental loss on the condo. That didn’t stop them from doing it, though.
