Alaska

Chilly Alaska has been known as a consistently tax-friendly state throughout the years. While you will have to put up with lower temperatures, you won’t have to put up with an income tax.

If you live in The Last Frontier, you won’t be required to pay any state sales taxes, which could cut your costs by a little, but you also have to keep in mind that some localities do levy sales taxes instead. In some cases, these may reach up to 7.5%. If a place also lacks a property tax (more on these later), the rates for sales taxes might be even higher.

That being said, the statewide average is at 1.76%, according to the Tax Foundation.

Here, the median property tax rate sits at $1,182 per $100,000 of assessed home value, meaning it’s a little bit over the national average.  On the other hand, you won’t have to pay any estate or inheritance taxes.

So, all in all, if you’re smart about where you’re relocating you can avoid paying higher taxes- just remember to pack warm clothes while you’re at it!
