New Hampshire

Many people want to relocate to beautiful New Hampshire, but is it the smart thing to do, tax-wise? Here, you won’t be taxed on earned income, but you will have to pay 5% on dividends and interest in excess of $4,800 for joint filers and $2,400 for individuals.

The good news is that the Granite State doesn’t impose any state or local sales taxes, so you might save even more money in that regard.

The bad news? You’ll have to pay $2,050 per $100,000 of assessed home value as far as median property taxes go, making this the third-highest rate in the U.S.

With all that said, given that there’s no inheritance tax or estate tax in New Hampshire, we’d say that the state has a mixed tax picture that you’d have to consider before relocating here.
