6. Undocumented immigrants drain Social Security
This is also incorrect! There are a lot of noncitizens who live and work in the US legally, and that means they are eligible for Social Security exactly like any of us. 7. An ex-spouse’s benefits comes out of your own
If you are divorced, your former spouse may be eligible to collect Social Security benefits on your record and vice versa. That’s the law, but those benefits won’t reduce your Social Security. You will get the benefit you’re entitled to based on your contributions and earnings history when you file for this system. This is a common myth, and most people are afraid of it.
