9. If a police officer asks for my identification, Am I forced to show it?
It depends on various things. For example, if you’re traveling to another country, you are actually legally obligated to show the police officer your identification. However, if a police officer stops you in America, based on which state you live in, you are required or not.
For instance, the law in Alabama says that all police officers, including sheriffs, have the right to stop anyone if they act unreasonably or if they are suspects. In Maryland, a law enforcement officer is entitled to ask for your ID if he/she believes that you’re carrying/transporting/wearing a handgun.
However, if they have virtually no reason to ask you for your ID, you are NOT obligated to show them anything.
