5. Is a police officer entitled to “steal” my DNA? 

Well, let’s say that someone is involved in a crime; if he or she doesn’t want their DNA on file, then they should not accept a cup of water/coffee from a police officer. They do have the right to take your DNA from virtually anything you touch.

According to a San Diego trial attorney, Nicholas J. Moore, Esq., it is actually a well-known practice among law enforcement officers. So, yes, what you see on TV is 100 percent true, at least when it comes to “stealing” someone’s DNA from a glass of water.
