The Best States for Low Taxes in 2019

Oklahoma

Our ranking: Not tax-friendly

State income tax: 0.5% (on up to $1,000 of taxable income for single filers and up to $2,000 for married joint filers) — 5% (on taxable income over $7,200 for single filers and over $12,200 for married joint filers)

Average state and local sales taxes: 8.93%

Gas taxes and fees: 17 cents per gallon

On the minus side: An income tax schedule that will put many people in the highest bracket (5%) and the sixth-highest combined sales tax rate in the nation, at an average of 8.93%, with some cities in double digits. But the Sooner State can boast of low property taxes and low fuel taxes.
