While sports careers are a dream for many, they’re not without their dangers. Yet rather than injuries in the field or during training being the main cause of death, it was in fact injuries during travel that accounted for the highest number of fatalities. In the sector there were 24 deaths in 2017, equalling a relatively high rate of 8.7 per 100,000.
