2. Mahatma Gandhi

The great leader was arrested for civil disobedience and sedition in 1922 after a march turned out violent and caused the death of 22 people. This incident caused tremendous pain to Gandhi.

He went on to become the greatest and most known advocate of peaceful protests and campaigns. He led Indians in the Quit India Movement that called for British withdrawal.

1. Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. was and still is to this day a symbol of the human rights movement who had a compelling impact on race relations. He was arrested five times.

He will always be remembered as the face that ended the legal segregation of African Americans.  He was sadly assassinated when he was just 39 years old.
