Spending On Other Essential Services Goes Down

Although the U.S. government’s budget is different than your own personal household budget, the overarching principles are still the same. Since printing additional money could lead to fiscal disaster, the government, at least theoretically, has a limited amount of money to spend.

As more of that money goes toward paying interest on the national debt, less money is available for essential government services like transportation, infrastructure and social welfare programs. If the national debt continues to increase, and interest payments continue to rise, funding for other programs might suffer as a result.
