The Most Expensive Cities in America

3. Honolulu, Hawaii

Being a resident here is not easy at all. Why so? Because groceries for example run about 64.6 percent higher than the national average, while utilities cost 72.5 percent more. And, unfortunately, with paychecks alone it is really difficult to make ends meet. The median household income in Honolulu is $82,90.

Yes, this is way better than the national median of $60,300, but, compared to San Francisco(a median income of $104,500 ), it is a huge gap. If you decide to move to Honolulu, get used to paying more for everything. One dozen eggs that costs $1.40 in Iowa runs $2.58 in Honolulu. Living in paradise doesn’t come cheap.
