7 Shocking U.S. Lawsuits Proving We’re a Crazy Nation

McDonald’s Hot Coffee Case

This is a widely known case throughout the U.S., but it definitely deserves its spot on the list.

Stella Liebeck was just another customer ordering her coffee at McDonald’s. However, things went all wrong when the (very) hot content spilled on her lap causing third degree burns on 6% of her body. The 79-year-old lady didn’t even think twice before filing a lawsuit against the company.

Initially, McDonald’s offered to pay $800 for the damage they caused. Then, Liebeck sued them for $125,000 citing “physical and mental pain, anguish, and loss of life’s enjoyment.”

The jury awarded her $2.86 million in damages which was ultimately reduced to $480,000.

  1. Judge Thomas of Ohio violence my civil rights and my bill rights in his bias court room of law. I can prove it.

  2. assuming that his lawyer got paid by the plantiff, Mr. Aitken, instead of taxpayers, it appears to be money well spent. arne. From this Mr. Austin would have gotten hours and hours of entertainment, physical activity, social contacts and probably even a job offer. If we taxpayers paid, then some form of re-imbursement needs to be devised. arne. ,
