The Most Wanted List Is Based on Criminals’ Looks
Do you have to look special to be on the FBI Most Wanted List? Apparently, yes!
One of the most important lists of dangerous criminals worldwide, the Most Wanted List was created by J. Edgar Hoover in 1950. Initially, here were the most outrageous people responsible for kidnapping, murder, theft and other crimes.
However, New York Times reporter Michael S. Schmidt explains that “the bureau trie[s] to select dangerous fugitives who…could be recognized by the public because they have distinctive physical features,” such as a scar, multiple tattoos or a strangely shaped face.
