When you’re not providing accurate numbers on your return, the IRS is tempted to audit you. Therefore, the income amounts you provide on your tax return should, or better said, must match the pieces of information Uncle Sam receives through both 1099 and W-2 forms.

Keep your nose clean and provide accurate numbers if you want to prevent an IRS audit. And if you think you can get away with it, think again. You can’t fool the IRS computers! They have a system that basically cross-checks the information provided on your tax return with the information reported on 1099 and W-2 forms.
