11 Laws That You’re Probably Breaking Without Even Knowing!

2. Hosting a Movie Night

Watching a movie in the comfort of your own home is vastly different from hosting a movie night for your work buddies, neighborhood, or any other group. That’s because you’ll be violating copyright laws and you could end up with a fine of up to $150,000, not to mention other penalties.

Even if you decide to watch said movie or show in your backyard, you’re still not out of the woods even if you’re just at home by yourself- others can probably view it too, making you liable!

So, if you ever want to watch something outside, there are certain rules you have to follow. To be on the safe side, check out what the Motion picture Licensing corp has to say on their website.

3. Sharing Your Netflix Password

We know, we know, thousands of people share their Netflix, HBO Now, and Hulu passwords… but just because people do it doesn’t magically make it legal! In fact, if you do this, you’ll be in violation of federal law.

You’ll need to read the terms and conditions of every streaming service you use to make sure sharing your password is legal.

Of note is the fact that Netflix has been pretty lenient about this rule in the past, but as competition in the industry grows, they may change their stance in the future.
