7. Using a radar detector
While it’s definitely naughty (according to most cops) to drive while using a radar detector, it’s not illegal at all. The use of a radar detector is legal in almost all U.S. states, except the District of Columbia and Virginia. However, the law doesn’t apply to a commercial vehicle.
If you’re driving a commercial vehicle, you can’t use a radar detector; it’s against the law. Military bases are also exceptions to the rule. They prohibit the use of radar detectors, so if you’re entering a military installation, make sure you won’t use a radar detector.
