Compensation for Being (Wrongly) Locked Up
If you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time, could you imagine what it would be like to be wrongfully incarcerated? Sadly, it used to happen a lot more than we like to think about.
But nowadays, the rise in technology that can help police officers and detectives, including DNA testing, can not only weed out the innocent, they can also prove somebody’s innocence, even if they’ve already been convicted of the crime they didn’t commit.
They won’t be able to get back lost time, but at least the compensation they receive will be fully exempt from federal taxation. At the very least, Congress is taking steps to right a lot of wrongs!
