Genetic testing kits have seen a sudden rise in popularity over the last couple of years as more and more people want to take a glimpse at their ancestry. You can find out a lot about your ancestors by ordering one of these kits online, but another one of their benefits is genetic testing.
Here’s where things get a little funky. If your kit includes genetic testing, then this can be considered a medical expense and, surprise surprise, you can deduct the costs of the kit! Since the cheaper ones don’t include genetic testing, this rule doesn’t apply to them, however.
