In March 2019, the first-time penalties when it comes to possession of up to 1/5 ounce of cannabis were decriminalized. In the past, you could have faced 15 days in jail. However, the 32nd governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan Grisham, said this year that legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes is “inevitable.”
So, it seems that full cannabis legalization could arrive anytime in New Mexico.
P.S.: Certain patients such as cancer, glaucoma, anorexia, multiple sclerosis, PTSD, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s patients can actually apply for a Personal Production License in order to cultivate a maximum of 16 plants.
