Interviewers Will Be Breaking the Law If They Ask You These 12 Questions!

“Are you a U.S. citizen?”

Asking about your national origin is a big no-no during interviews. But did you know they’re also not allowed to ask you if you’re a U.S. citizen?

According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, interviewers can’t discriminate based on immigration status or citizenship. They can, however, ask if you are authorized to work in the U.S., but that’s about it.

“Do you have any disabilities or medical conditions?”

Gauging whether you can perform your duties is part of an interviewer’s job, but there are certain things far too personal for them to ask you about.

They cannot inquire whether or not you take any prescription drugs, if you’ve been diagnosed with a mental illness, if you have a disability, or any other medical condition.

At most, you’ll be asked if you have any conditions that will keep you from performing your job or if you are able to perform it without reasonable accommodation.
