“Are you married?”

Your marital status has nothing to do with your employment, so interviewers can’t ask you if you’re married. this subject should never come up during the interview process.

They can ask if you’re willing to put in overtime or even relocate, but if they continue pestering you with questions relating to your marital questions, the best course of action is to assure them that your personal life won’t affect your professional responsibilities.

“Are you planning to have children soon?”

Do employers want to know if you’re planning on having children? Number one, that’s none of their business. Number two, that’s highly illegal, especially if they’re planning on not hiring someone so they wouldn’t have to give them maternity leave.

What’s more, they can’t ask if you already have children and they definitely can’t ask about what you do or plan to do for childcare.

On top of it being illegal, people should just not ask this question in the first place, in any environment, as it can do more harm than good!
