9. Have second thoughts
You may have a strong reason to suspend your benefit, pay back the money you have already received and start collecting Social Security benefits again later. You can change your mind as long as you’ve been collecting benefits for less than a full year.
For example, you could have second thoughts if you get a job after you retire or inherit some money and decide you can actually afford to delay filing in order to get a higher benefit check.
You can do this by filing Social Security Administration Form 521, Request for Withdrawal of Application. The best part? When you file again later, your Social Security payments should be substantially higher.
