The 56th governor of New York, Andrew Mark Cuomo, had several attempts to legalize cannabis. Back in 2019, the state legislature was pretty close to pass a bill regarding recreational marijuana legalization. However, it didn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel because they were unable to come up with a tax plan.

A close advisor of Gov. Andrew Cuomo stated that he would attempt again at the beginning of the year 2021.

Taking into consideration that New Jersey has legalized recreational marijuana, New York now has three border states (New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Vermont) in which adults can smoke cannabis for recreational purposes.
