3. Better door-to-door sales regulations
In recent years, the Office de la protection du consommateur (OPC) has received many complaints about door-to-door heat pump salespeople. We all know them: they show up with promises of products that will save a lot of money and produce a $10,000 to $15,000 ($7,690-$11,535 USD) finance contract to be signed on the spot.
Customers who fell for the pitch ended up with a heat pump worth around $3,000 ($2,307 USD) and had a very hard time cancelling their finance contract within the 10-day limit established by the Consumer Protection Act.
According to the OPC, as of August 1, 2018, a credit agency that finances a contract between a consumer and a door-to-door salesperson is prohibited from paying the salesperson the sum in question for a period of 10 days, facilitating consumer redress.
