12. Products advertised as on sale

You hurry to a store to buy a jacket on sale, but when you get there you find out that there are none left (been there, done that). In this case, you are entitled to request either an equivalent product at the advertised price or a rain check. A rain check entitles you to the same rebate once the product becomes available.

According to the Consumer Protection Act, when merchants advertise a product as on sale, they must have enough stock to respond to the demand generated by such advertisements. Merchants may be exempt only if the advertisement mentions a “limited quantity” and clearly indicates the quantity in question. Also, merchants must label each product.
