On top of the federal tax of $1.01 per gallon, you’ll also have to pay an additional, mandatory 53¢ per gallon in local taxes in the Peach State. You’ll also find an excise tax on a variety of wines such as fortified, dessert or table wines, malt beverages, and distilled spirits.

All in all, federal taxes for wine go up to $1.51 per gallon while for liquors they sit at $3.79 per gallon.

And we can’t talk about alcohol without bringing up the state’s Atlanta Brewing Company, founded in 1993. You can’t go without trying their famous Red Brick, which sold more than 4,000 barrels in the brewery’s first year of production! But there’s plenty to taste and try out as well since they offer as many as 28 beer varieties including Soul of the City pale ale and Hoplanta IPA.
