6. Spitting on cars that are badly parked
If you don’t cause actual damage to the car, spitting on it won’t result in jail time. However, in Massachusetts, for example, spitting in public is considered a crime against public health. According to the same law, you can only spit in a “receptacle provided for that purpose exactly” while being in public.
Failing to do so will actually get you a $20 fine. However, not all states have the same laws. For instance, Chicago renounced its spitting penalty in 1997. Although the lawmakers thought that spitting is a pretty unhealthy act, they concluded that the act itself is not a breach of the law; so it shouldn’t be illegal.
