7. Shipping
A survey found that 3 out of every 4 American businesses experienced a disruption to some part of their supply chain because of the irregularities in the shipping industry which were affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
As you already know, China is one of the world’s foremost shipping hubs and COVID-19 has forced the country to close ports and send factory workers home. The International Chamber of Shipping said the pandemic has cost the worldwide industry around $350 million/week.
The coronavirus outbreak has affected everyone in this industry and Americans aren’t the exception. Back in January, North American transport volume was down 9.4 percent compared to the same month of 2019. There are over 225,000 Americans working in the freight transportation industry and the disruption has compromised billions in wages for these workers.
