5. Young adults and college students living at home

If your adult child (17 or 18 years old) is living with you, he or she won’t get any payment. No money to college students and young adults who don’t pay their expenses since they are still living with their parents. And it’s not just about young adults. For instance, an elderly parent living in your house won’t get the third stimulus check either.

The only difference now is that the person claiming a young adult or a college student as a dependent will actually receive an extra $1,400. For the first two rounds of stimulus payments, only parents of dependent children younger than 16 years old were entitled to get the additional amount of money.

The American Rescue Plan changed that now, so regardless of your dependent’s age, you will get the extra payment.
