23. New Hampshire

Relocating to New Hampshire? We have some good news for you and your family. The Granite State has no sales tax, and although it doesn’t impose an income tax, it does have a 5 percent tax when it comes to dividends and interest over $4,800 for joint filers and $2,400 for individuals.

For homeowners, New Hampshire imposes a $2,195 tax for every $100,000 of assessed home value. Thankfully, there’s no estate or inheritance tax.

24. New Jersey

New Jersey has a mixed-tax situation. It imposes a 6.625 levy, but this rate varies depending on where you live. The rate in Salem County is cut in half, for example. Footwear and clothing are exempt all year round throughout the state.

Heading to income taxes… the lowest rate is 1.4 percent on up to $20,000 of taxable income, and the highest rate is 10.75 percent on more than $500,000. However, you’ll also face a 1 percent payroll tax.

The median property tax rate in the City of Newark is $2,471 per $100,000 of assessed home value, and while there’s no estate tax, New Jersey has an inheritance one.
