The Sunshine State is one of the most popular U.S. states for great retirement places. It doesn’t tax your Social Security benefits nor your income tax.

However, Florida has other taxes. For example, the state imposes a 6 percent levy on sales taxes, and localities can maximize it. They can add as much as 2.5 percent, the average combined rate being 7.05 percent.

If you’re dreaming about owning a place to call home in the Sunshine State, you should know that the median property tax rate here is $928 for every $100,000 of assessed home value. But, again, there’s no estate or inheritance tax.
