Even though there’s a 6.5 percent state levy, localities can make it as much as 11.62 percent. In Arkansas, the average combined rate is 9.47 percent, and you’ll also have to deal with a food tax (0.125 percent) and local sales taxes.

The state also imposes an income tax. The lowest rate is 2 percent on taxable income that ranges between $4,600 and $9,099, and the highest one is 6.9 percent on more than $86,200. If you want to become a homeowner in Arkansas, the median property tax rate is $629 per $100,000 of assessed home value.

And just like most U.S. states, Arkansas doesn’t tax inheritance or estate either.
